Welcome to our crazy life....

When I grew up I had the wonderful benefit of living a bike ride away from both sets of grandparents. Not so lucky are our kids. Even for the actual ones that live in Atlanta, it's still a about an hours drive away! So, this blog will have to serve as the next best thing to riding our bikes to see the grandparents. Enjoy watching our kids learn and grow one day at a time...

new found treasure

So I love to go to the thrift store, usually I go with an item in mind but I love to just look through and see what I can find. Last Wednesday this is what we found.....

Of course since it is a "real" tool belt it has to be tied on Caleb! Both he and Elizabeth think it is the coolest thing though and have incorporated it into the many games they play. Madie just likes to carry around the hammer and bang on things.

Helping mommy...

So yesterday I snapped a cute picture of Madie "helping" me make dinner. I thought I would just make sure everyone got the full picture of what that "really" meant....

1. She got the mixer, strainer (which went on her head) and salad spinner out and drug them into the living room to "cook".

2. She got into one of the kitchen drawers and got all my cone filters out. When I asked her to give them back she ran, not walked, but ran away from me and into her bed room in effort to get away from me and keep all 100 filters to herself.

3. She then got into the kitchen hutch and got all the red solo cups. She conveniently hid those in her room until those were discovered by Caleb who's idea of "helping" me is to run into to tell me what Madie is doing wrong....maybe he has a future as a reporter?

4. Once the table was set and some of the food on the table waiting, I returned to find Madie ONTOP of the table trying to eat the cheese out of the bowl.

5. I returned again to find Madie trying to get the cheese.

6. And again I returned to find her getting the cheese, this time after Caleb reported her actions to me.

And this all happened within 20 minutes of me preparing tacos for dinner.

After this episode, I currently have "baby gate" listed on my dry erase board as something to try and find at the thrift store. Gating my "little helper" in the play room while cooking dinner sounds like the best way for her to help me!

What was your first cd?

David and I were talking last night and some how we got on the subject of cds... Oh, I remember, I told him I was riding home on Monday and heard my favorite Debbi Gibson song on the radio. Her album was one of my first tapes. Then We both remembered our very first cd.

Mine was given to me by my Mimi after I had just bought, with my own money, my very first boombox with a cd player. She gave me her Barbra Streisand Greatest Moments cd. I bet my mom can still remember me playing it over and over again. It was all I had for a while! David was a Collective Soul cd.

Two weeks ago our downtown Acworth had a sidewalk/yard sale. So for the first time the whole family walked down main street together and looked at all the stuff. At one store they had a box of old tapes, Elizabeth asked what those were! Amazing isn't it, the next generation doesn't even know a time without cds, cellphones, texting....I remember when we used to say "Page me!"

Do you remember your first cd?

Elizabeth's first writing assignment for 5th grade

My Favorite Sports

I have three favorite sports. These sports are soccer, baseball and running. My first favorite sport is soccer. I like soccer because it's fun to be on a team and make lots of goals. My second favorite sport is baseball. I love baseball because my favorite player Chipper Jones plays baseball. My third favorite sport is running. I enjoy running because it's healthy for me and I love to do it. I like all sports, but my favorite sports will always be soccer, baseball and running.

Fw: Milestones

So David took off Caleb's training wheels tonight. We tried to go on a walk/ ride with him and sissy but his bike was leaning so much because of his training wheels we decided to go back home and take care of that. He was a little scared but I took him to the side yard and off we started. He got going well and I let go and he went for about 15 yards before falling. Then he looked back at me and got a huge smile on his face and ran and jumped into my arms so proud of what he had done! We tried a little longer and he only scraped himself up once. He wants to try in the street tomorrow! Here's a picture of David helping him. Sorry its so tiny, my camera wasn't charged so I had to use my phone.

Summer Reading

So here's a list of the books I have currently checked out of the library for my summer reading enjoyment:

1. Gift from the sea
2. Make-a-mix
3. The two sides of love
4. Organize your home! : simple routines for managing your household
5. Choosing simplicity : real people finding peace and fulfillment in a complex world
6. A family of value
7. The Southern Living complete do-ahead cookbook
8. Frozen assets : how to cook for a day and eat for a month
9. Because I said so! : 366 insightful and thought-provoking reflections on parenting and family life
10. Streamlining your life : a 5-point plan for uncomplicated living
11. How to get organized when you don't have the time
12. I promise : how 5 commitments determine the destiny of your marriage
13. Making love last forever

As you can see, I like to read! And I am completely into trying to get better organized as #4 gets closer to arrival. And hoping to figure out how to make cook easier and how to be a better parent and a better wife. So far I have learned that I need to plan everything, but to remain simple. That I am a Lion...a leader and thus I have a tendency to lean too much toward the hard side of love and not the soft side. That I do a pretty good job when it comes to clutter considering I have boxed up about 30 boxes to prepare for selling the house. (sadly, I haven't need much out of any of those 30 boxes....I'm feeling a garage sale might be in our near future.) Oh, and I am still trying to write my life goals, that's the first step to getting truly organized.

I'll keep you posted how it all works out, right now I'm going to research which planner I want to use to get my schedule and goals and plans all up and running.
